Writing Contests: Where to Find Them

Writing contests are a great way to get noticed, especially if they’re free. There are quite a few of those around. If I do apply to a fee based one, one thing I do is to check to see if the prize money is at least twenty times the fee. Here’s a good site I often use. Do the research before applying. In other words, don’t sue me. :-)

Humor Writing Contest

Humor writer, Cris Cohen, claims to be so shocked that King of Humor Dave Barry is endorsing his forthcoming book Staying Crazy To Keep From Going Insane that he’s decided to run a contest to celebrate.

Cohen’s contest rules:

  • One entry per person (“even if you have multiple personalities”
  • Limited to people in the US and Canada (“I can’t afford the cost of shipping to Yemen”)
  • Entry cannot be longer than 250 words
  • Email entry to cris.cohen1@gmail.com
  • The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, April 12, 2011
  • The winner will be announced on the blog and Facebook page on Friday, April 15, 2011
  • Content must be PG-rated.
