Pinterest: the next Facbook or Twitter?

February 28, 2012 Leave a comment

The photo sharing website has garnered 12 million followers in under a year. How this works – you ‘pin’ a picture of something you like you to your page. You can repin or like, share via Facebook, twitter, and so on.

Potential uses for Pinterest: if you have a great recipe you want shared, take a great picture of it. Works for travel agents as well.

How it might help writers: the cover of your book gets shared, building a buzz around your book. Worth a try, imo.

Importance of Marketing Your Books

November 8, 2011 2 comments

In the good old days (does anyone even remember them?) it was enough to let your words speak for you. Not anymore, unfortunately. Because a gazillion books get published annually (esp. with the advent of ebooks and self-publishing) it is vital that one peddle one’s self, distasteful as it sounds. As an author (esp. if you write fiction), your brand is your name. If you write non-fiction, it is a tad bit easier because you can create a platform. With fiction how do you even do it?

The trigger for my completed novel Tell A Thousand Lies [coming soon]  was India’s obsession with fairness and fairness creams (hence my twitter tagline:    My novel in brief – Fairness Creams: Finding Solutions to Life’s Vexing Problems, One Application at a time.)

Having cute taglines doesn’t suffice however. You still have to be all over the internet, though I find that it’s emptying my brain of its creativity.

FaceBook On The Move

Each time I log into FaceBook, they’ve changed something – an attempt to keep their user base from switching to Google+. Here’s an article to help you keep pace with these changes yourself.  Click here for details.

I’ve been lax in posting lately. I’m trying to get my book out and the last minute details are driving me nuts. Hope to be more regular.

New Social Networking Offerings from Google

If you’re on gmail, you’ve probably already received invites to be in somebody’s ‘circles’. Now, Google has also come up with Google+ which, from what I understand, is a better version of facebook,  perhaps even twitter? In facebook whatever you announce, you announce to the whole world. In circles, you can control who you direct information to. Its early days yet (only a month since Google+’s launch). We’ll have to wait and watch to see where it goes.
